Non-standard objects for investment: let's look at examples
Luxury spirits
For example, collectible wine can steadily double in price in 5 — 7 years; in some cases, its value can increase up to five times. However, to successfully resell wine, you need to have a good understanding of it: you need to know the best brands and successful harvest years and be able to recognise fakes.
In addition, to preserve its quality, it must be stored in particular conditions, in a specific position and with a controlled climate. But with the right investment approach, earning 30 — 50% per year is possible.
Marvel comics and action figures
Earlier, collecting figurines and comic books from the Marvel universe was only popular among its fans, but now they have become a part of pop culture thanks to box office movies and video games.
Vintage comic book issues from the early twentieth century are also prized by collectors. The batch number on the cover affects the price of the copy — the smaller it is, the more expensive the comic is.
Hero figurines can bring up to 260% profit, especially if they are unpacked and were released in limited editions a few years ago. And rare comic books bring up to 330% profit. Over time, some copies can become antiques and become even more expensive. And if you artificially manage the supply, for example, buying up the same issue on the open market or negotiating with competitors, you can increase your profits even more.
Bonsai trees
Bonsai is a Japanese art of plant cultivation and an exotic investment that requires a lot of patience.
For an ornamental dwarf tree to live and grow in value, it needs delicate care and regular trimming. At the same time, plants purchased only in a specialised shop and having a certificate confirming the tree's compliance with several requirements worthy of the name "bonsai" and its real value are suitable for investment.
But the patient investor will be rewarded. Prices for young trees start from $50, and ten-year representatives cost more than $5000.
And if you manage to grow a real long-lived tree and pass it on to your heirs, then the price for hundred-year-old trees goes over $50'000. What is not an alternative to the "one room" left to grandchildren on the city's outskirts?
Vinyl records
According to experts, the price of vinyl records annually increases by 10 — 20%. But with a successful choice of records, profitability can reach 500%.
Rare copies, such as the first autographed records of The Beatles, are the most lucrative. But even less rare records can bring a good income.
But it is essential to take care of them properly: store them in a dry place and not take them out of their packaging too often.
Postage stamps
Collecting postage stamps is not just a hobby. Philately has cemented itself in the 4th place among modern investment tools. Some stamps are worth hundreds of thousands of dollars.
The list of the most sought-after stamps includes both the world's first stamp — the British "black penny", and other rarer specimens: blue "three pence" with Queen Victoria, a series of the Falkland Islands in 1933, Hong Kong stamp of 1891, issued for the anniversary of Victoria's reign and the American "dime" in 1847.
The price of the most expensive specimens regularly rises by 10 — 15 per cent per year. Of particular value are rare stamps, which used to be issued in limited quantities. Moreover, the stamp market is not affected even by the collapse of quotations on the world exchanges.
But the main risk of such investments is demographic. For example, in England, the average age of a philatelist is 65, and the situation is very similar worldwide. It is unclear whether this market will grow younger with the arrival of heirs, but you still have a couple of decades to spare.
