Hamster Kombat (HMSTR) - a review of one of the most sensational projects of 2024

What is Hamster Kombat?

Hamster Kombat is a clicker that launched in March 2024 as a mini-app in Telegram. It is similar to the popular Notcoin game, but unlike the Notcoin game, Hamster Kombat has more complex and elaborate mechanics.

Initially, players could not just click on the "hamster button" to collect points but also increase the productivity of their farm by increasing the level of unique booster cards, which bring passive profit per hour. The higher the level of the cards, the higher the passive profit. However, it had to be collected at least once every three hours. Otherwise, the pool would fill up, and the farm would stop bringing passive income in points. Also, every day, you could collect combos of cards, for which players received an additional 5 million points.

Later, the developers gradually added other features to the game, such as:

  • Cipher: once a day, players needed to spell a word using Morse code, for which they received extra points;
  • Keys: every day, players had to complete mini-games for which they received special keys.

These quests influenced the number of tokens the project eventually gave out during the airdrop.

Why did Hamster Kombat become so popular?

The game Hamster Kombat, nicknamed simply "hamster" in the crypto community, surpassed the sensational Notcoin in popularity several times and became a real phenomenon.

According to the Hamster Kombat team, since its launch by the end of September 2024, more than 300 million users have joined the game, which is a record among all clickers — the game has become truly viral.

There could be several reasons for the popularity of Hamster Kombat:

  • First, the success of Notcoin caught the attention of many users, including those unfamiliar with cryptocurrencies. Many users were able to get $200-500 worth of airdrop without much time spent at the peak rate of the NOT token;
  • Secondly, marketing and word of mouth played a significant role. At first, the hamster was advertised in social networks, including Influencers. However, the game very quickly became viral, and its audience began to grow rapidly/ Just imagine: since its launch in 2015, Ethereum has accumulated 285 million unique addresses (real users are much less), and Hamster Kombat was able to gather more than 300 million users in just six months;
  • Third, Hamster Kombat received support from Telegram itself. The project was initially presented at a crypto conference in Dubai, and the Telegram team took notice of it.

HMSTR token

HMSTR is the meme token and native asset of the game Hamster Kombat. The listing of the HMSTR token was delayed for a long time, causing outrage in the community as Hamster Kombat's audience continued to grow. The more players, the fewer rewards everyone would get, especially since the game already had a vast audience.

The HMSTR token went public on the exchanges on September 26, 2024, and was initially distributed to players who fit the criteria provided by the project team in a free giveaway (airdrop). A total of 600 million HMSTR, or 60% of the total number of tokens, were allocated for the airdrop. The criteria for receiving were as follows:

  • Amount of passive income per hour;
  • Completed tasks in the Earn section;
  • Number of invited users;
  • Achievements;
  • Presence of subscription to the official Telegram channel Hamster Kombat;
  • Keys.

It was enough to fulfill at least one of the criteria for getting an airdrop. Immediately after listing, the price of the HMSTR memcoin token was set at $0.009; on some exchanges, it reached $0.012. Hamster Kombat's initial capitalization was $611 million, which is relatively high for new tokens, especially memcoins. For comparison, the capitalization at the time of listing such large projects as zkSync and LayerZero was $904 million and $1.1 billion, respectively, and these projects were launched several years after the development.

There were no doubts about the Hamster Kombat team's serious intentions, as the HMSTR token was listed on the largest crypto exchange, Binance, and added to the built-in Telegram Wallet, where users can withdraw assets directly from the mini-application.

However, almost immediately after the start of trading, the Hamster Kombat token began to fall rapidly, and the next day after the listing, it fell to $0.0061. Then, the price of HMSTR continued to decline, and as of October 2024, it was $0.004 with a capitalization of $258 million.

For now, there are no use cases for the HMSTR token, but in October 2024, users can participate in the second season of the Hamster Kombat game to claim the second airdrop that the project team is planning. Only 15% of the HMSTR tokens will be allocated for the second giveaway.
